This rescue underscores our commitment to helping all creatures, regardless of their species. Each success story, no matter how small, reminds us of the difference we can make with a bit of care and compassion.

Since this is something that happens frequently and we consider a significant part of our rescue work, here is a break down of how Pete’s Mission is able to help.

Thailand is home to millions of street dogs and therefore it happens quite regulary that Pete’s Mission receives information about a new puppy litter in the area. Whenever this happens we’ll make sure to visit the mumma & her babies straight away to see if they are living in a safe spot. If they aren’t: we’ll take them to the sanctuary immediately. For example in the past we have picked up puppies who were underfed, living in a drain pipe, close to big roads or whose mum had been killed like it’s the case with this litter. We’ll always take medical care of mum & her babies and feed them daily, unless of course there are locals living nearby who are taking over this responsibility.

Whenever the pupies are old enough we’ll then ensure to find save homes for them by reaching out to our local community. Pete’s Mission was set up to improve the welfare of stray animals and the most effective way of doing this is by managing the root problem, which is the overpopulation of street animals. This is why we have a spay and neuter programm and sterilize dogs on a weekly basis.

In the past years we have been able to save,  rehome, spay and neuter countless of puppies and we’ll continue to do so. Please consider supporting our vital work since we are the only animal rescue in this area.

Luckily we are able to source an affordable brand of vegan dogfood which we mix with rice & sometimes with local veggies, such as pumpkin or carrots.
All of our dogs love their food and are in great health. So far we’ve fed pregnant and nursing dogs as well as growing puppies and all adult dogs this way.

As an animal sanctuary we are actively trying to reduce as much suffering on this planet as we can, so knowing that noone has to die for our animals food  is a great relief for us.

Side note: We also started up-cycling the foodbags to reduce waste and promote the use of reusable bags at the local market. (See below)

Some of Duda’s favourite day-to-day activities during the past years were:

• naptime inside one of the many unlocked cages on the property
• being all humble & sweet until it’s time to defend her foodbowl with evil growls
• accompanying best friend Chloe and sister Shirley
• occasionally breaking out to explore the dirty, nearby ponds
• hiding from all potential trouble in the disabled pen, meanwhile getting voluntarily beaten up by Peanut
• using the outside sink as a step in order to jump inside the house and observe what her human friends are up to

The 10th of May was a special day for our girl Duda, it was time to move into her new found home.
It was a bittersweet goodbye, as she’ll be missed terribly at Pete’s Mission.
But having found a beautiful, safe home for her fills us all with joy and luckily she hasn’t moved too far for us to visit.

Generally speaking puppies would be happy to see humans, approaching everyone with a wagging tail, almost always eager to play. But when we found Sherry, she was too scared to move any closer to us than 3 meters. We could tell that she was desperate to try, especially because we came with food. She wouldn’t run away, but simply hide behind one of the massive water tanks, her small face with big ears peeking around the corner every minute, curious to see if her visitors were still there. Her tail was tucked, her big ears down and her whole body language was signalling us how fearful she was.

After over 1 hour we had to give up and made the decision to come back in the evening to bring a food trap. We weren’t feeling too confident in our attempt, as we knew Sherry very likely was used to eating fish and chicken leftovers from the restaurant nextdoor. We still decided to use our plant based dogfood with a hint of coconut oil and were thrilled when we found Sherry inside said trap just about a few hours later. Poor baby was trembling, growling and barking when we came to pick her up.

She moved into the volunteers house and decided to hide under a chair for the first hour. Over time she gained confidence and finally she allowed us to stroke her face that same evening, which she enjoyed with closed eyes and the cutest sigh. Sherry must have been desperate for company, love and affection. It was beautiful to see her transition from a scared, shy pup into a little ball of energy, constantly chasing Rusty (another puppy who slept in our house) and approaching the people she knew for attention. Finally she was able to act like the carefree puppy she should be.

Today it has been 2 months since Sherry joined Pete’s Mission. After moving in with the big dogs she soon became very attached to Ryan and is rarely leaving his side. To this day she’s still determined to choose the people she will allow to pick her up and cuddle her. She is a very special addition to the Pete’s Mission crew and we are hoping to find the perfect and safe home for her someday.

Ryan and a bunch of volunteers went on the rescue mission. Her 6 pups were found hidden in a pipe. One by one Ryan pulled each of the adorable babies out. Later on they were named by our followers: Plum, Birthday, Pirate, Phil, Pattie and Gus. Carmen was not so easy to catch! It took several attempts and a lot of patience, but finally we were able to bring the whole family home to Pete’s Mission, where they are now well protected and taken care of.

As with every new puppy litter we bring in, Peanut decided to give Carmen a break from motherhood and took over as the loving aunt. After a few weeks the pups were taken to the local vet to receive their vaccinations and later on they’ll all be sterilized. This is our standard procedure with every puppy litter we rescue. The costs for a vaccination is 25 AUD, a sterilisation costs 75 AUD, any donations helping us to cover these costs will be highly appreciated.
